This year the international community celebrates the 19th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The National Committee for Families and Children (NCFC) as the statutory body legally mandated to oversee Belize's compliance with its international and national commitments to children will join in this celebration by hosting an Open Day a the Bliss Institute for the Performing Arts on Thursday November 20th at 9:00 am to 12:00 noon.
Issues surrounding child protection are always on the national agenda. Hence, the objective of the Open Day is to give the general public insight into what the NCFC has been working on and to give the organization an opportunity to highlight some of htis year's programme initiatives.
Some of these initiatives include the newly developed website and the 2009 Awareness calendar. Additionally, with support from UNICEF the NCFC began a project that would allow the next voting population to express their opinion on the governance process. The result of phase one of this project "The Adolescent Governance Survey" will be presented. Through the legal and policy reform mandate the NCFC will also provide an update on some of the efforts being made to bring the country's laws into tandem with the Convention on teh Rights of the Child.
Your presence at our Open Day will be greatly appreciated.
