UNDP is the United Nations global development network, an organization advocating for change and connecting countries to knowledge, experience and resources, to help people build a better life.
UNDP Belize supports the government and communities to advance their own solutions to the challenges of development. The overarching aim of our work is supporting progress towards the Belize Millennium Development Goals.  All the activities are implemented in close collaboration with the Government, other UN agencies and development stakeholders.
UNDP Belize supports capacity development, human development, advocacy, and coordination, for the achievement of MDGs and of human development, at a national and local level, via four main focus areas:
I.  Poverty Reduction and Achievement of the MDGs programme – The objective being pursued is achieving MDGs and reducing human poverty, through support to MDG country reporting and poverty monitoring; and pro-poor policy reform to achieve MDG targets.
II.  Democratic Governance programme – UNDP Belize is working to foster democratic governance through justice and human rights; decentralization and local governance; and public administration reform.
III.  Crisis Prevention and Recovery programme – Because of its geographical location, climate change factors, and level of regulation, Belize is prone to disasters, the impact of which can cause severe impact on poverty levels particularly on the vulnerable and excluded populations, so the UNDP country programme is mainly, but not limited to natural Disaster Reduction.
IV.  Environment and Sustainable Development programme – Our work in this area entails support for the establishment of frameworks and strategies for sustainable development, including effective water governance; access to sustainable energy services; sustainable land management to combat desertification and land degradation; Conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity; and national/sectoral policy and planning to control emissions of ozone-depleting substances and persistent organic pollutants.
