Our Children Need Protecting

Belize City – February 3, 2021

The National Committee for Families and Children strongly condemns Monday night’s home invasion in the City of Belmopan. While learning of any home invasion may be disturbing, the news that children were victims in this incident makes it even more distressing. Incidents like these often leave victims (especially children and those of diverse abilities) suffering from long term effects that affects their quality of life.

We join the voices condemning this incident and look to law enforcement authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice. We all need to work together to ensure that our families, particularly our children are protected. As seen in article 19 of the United Nations Convention of the Rights of the Child (UNCRC)Children have the right to be protected from being hurt or mistreated in the body or mind.

We are also calling on individuals with information to come forward to assist law enforcement authorities.
